It's ALIVE!

Posted By at Wednesday, December 19, 2018

I once heard the late brother Rev. Harry Greenwood share a story many years back, and he told about a man who was enthusiastic to share the Gospel in Hyde Park in London.

He had spent some 20 minutes standing on a corner but no one stopped to listen to him, they were just all too busy with their urgent lives. He was about to give up when he had heaven-sent inspiration. So he put his little bible on the ground and set his hat on top of it and started to shout out; "It’s ALIVE!"

Very soon a crowd gathered around him eager to see what was under the hat that was alive. When he had a reasonable crowd he lifted his hat and began to preach, "Yes folks, the Word of God is alive and can change your life if you let it."

Apparently, several came forward for prayer and got saved afterwards!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Passion Translation says; Every Scripture has been written by the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. 17 Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfil any assignment God gives you.

Have you ever read a selection of Scripture that you have read many times before, but then suddenly the words seem to jump off of the page? Perhaps every time before, you may have just skimmed over the words. Yet this time around, the words reveal something amazing and new to you? It’s as if God is speaking directly to your spirit through the words on that page.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Do you realise that when you read Scripture, the Scriptures are also reading you because Jesus is the Word of God made flesh! He’s reading your spirit, your current circumstances, and is aware of the spiritual battle raging around you. You may not know it, but it is reading you and me!

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

AMP CE For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life [soul] and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analysing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

That’s why the Bible is so important. It’s not just an ancient piece of literature filled with stories. It’s not just a book filled with law, doctrine, and poetry. It is alive!

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

This is why it is so vital to read Scripture every single day. It’s not just for head knowledge, but it guides and feeds you spiritually and leads you through every situation.

Sometimes a verse is meant for a day, a season, or a life. Perhaps this week, start to pray and ask for God to reveal a Scripture to meditate upon today, this week, and during this season of life.
